Somer Valley FM believe that a strong governance structure, and a business-like approach are essential in delivering volunteer driven local radio for NE Somerset.
The board of directors are responsible for Somer Valley FM. The Volunteers Board (VB) is annually elected by members to represent their interests with management and directors.
Yvonne, non executive director, has been working in health & wellbeing since 1984. As well as being a qualified life coach, personal trainer & Nordic Walking Instructor she delivers corporate training internationally. Yvonne also has her own show at Somer Valley FM, The Women’s Power Hour, and sees the station as a positive medium to engage & empower more women in the community.
Dom has led Somer Valley FM from the start and currently shares responsibilities for running the station with other board members. From his background as a broadcast professional Dom has amassed considerable experience in managing third sector enterprises, volunteer coordination and training. In 2017 Dom launched Sound Vision (Charity No 1172980), which delivers training and mentoring at Somer Valley FM. Nationally, Dom has Chaired the Community Media Association and served as a trustee of the Radio Academy.
Pete, an executive director, has been with Somer Valley FM since day one as a school student. Pete joined the board in 2018. As a professional broadcast and IT specialist he brings considerable technical experience as well as safety in the workplace to the station. He is also a regular presenter and mentors new volunteers.
Chris was a founding director who was behind the vision to link community radio with education. As a non executive director, he brings considerable experience as an entrepreneur and local politician. Chris ran children's services in a former administration and is currently the Advocate for Looked After Children in B&NES.
