Election Coverage 2024
Written by Somer Valley FM on 28/06/2024
As the areas only radio station, Somer Valley is always keen on ensuring residents get to hear from their local candidates.
In 2024, the local boundary has been changed, meaning for the first time in many years residents in the area will be voting for different MPs. This has been quite a confusing change so we’ve tried to explain it as best as possible. Maps of the new areas are below if you are unsure which seat you now come under.

The new areas are:

North East Somerset and Hanham – North East Somerset is set to be completely transformed, with many of its current voters being reassigned to different constituencies and even part of South Gloucestershire being included in its new boundaries. Only about half of North East Somerset will stay in the new North East Somerset and Hanham constituency. The loss of these areas will be balanced out by including the Bristol suburb of Hanham from across the Avon in South Gloucestershire within the constituency. Local villages including Paulton, will stay within this area.
Candidates standing for this seat are:
- Barmy Brunch, The Official Monster Raving Loony Party
- Edmund Cannon, Green Party
- Nicholas Hales, Independent
- Paul MacDonnell, Reform UK
- Dan Norris, Labour Party
- Jacob Rees-Mogg, Conservative
- Dine Romero, Liberal Democrats
