Your local radio station needs you – and you could become a national name

Somer Valley FM, the local radio station for North East Somerset, based in Midsomer Norton, is seeking new presenters, reporters, and producers for 2022.

‘During the last year we’ve really developed our sound, with more presenters, longer broadcasting hours, and increased show variety’, commented Richard Burgess, Station Manager.  ‘Happily, this has reflected in our listener numbers increasing, and some great local companies joining us as sponsors.’

‘But who wants to stand still?’, he added, ‘We’ve presenters featured on local BBC stations, and Seb Bailey, who hosted a BBC Radio 1 show over the New Year, has been invited back to present more shows in April’.

Richard continued ‘All we seek from new volunteers is enthusiasm and commitment. If you have a desire to be involved with radio, either in front or behind the mic, a passion for specialist features or a musical genre, we will help do the rest’.

In 2021 14 new volunteers were trained at Somer Valley, which culminated in a variety of new shows, including regular Breakfast and Brunch hosts, late-night DJ sets, specialist Business and History programmes, local news features, complemented by additional production support.

‘We will train you on how to plan a show, and present it’ said Richard, ‘and who knows where that could take you?’
